Minister of Finance Discusses Economic and Trade Ties with Uzbek Deputy Prime Minister /Minister of Finance

12 April 2018: H.E. Eklil Hakimi, Minister of Finance, leading government high level delegation to Uzbekistan, met its Deputy Prime Minister /Finance Minister, Jamshid Kuchkarov.

In the meeting, the parties discussed strengthening economic and trade ties between two countries,  following up the MOUs have been signed at recent trip of H.E. Mohammad Ashraf Ghani, President of Islamic Republic of Afghanistan, Uzbekistan’s 500 million USD support to finance Mazar, Maimana-Herat railway and drawing Uzbek support for Afghanistan’s membership in Shanghai Cooperation Organization.

Additionally,  in the meeting,they also talked about 1000-megawatt transmission line of Sorkhan-Pule Khomri, Uzbekistan’s investment in Afghan iron, gravel (road metal) and cement factories to provide raw materials for the railway project, transfer of goods through Termez to China and the other countries, purchase of 6 textile factories, cooperation in mine, customs and banking sectors and starting the banks works of the two countries.

Moreover, the establishment of a fiber optic link through Uzbekistan to reduce the rate of internet access, providing facilities for visas issuance to traders and travelers and for training centers to the Afghan students, and opening of Cargo Centers in Termez and the purchase of major government items, in particular vehicles and other important issues were parts of the meeting agenda.

Finally, both sides emphasized on strengthening and expansion of relations between the two the countries and the implementation of above issues and MOUs have been signed.
