According to Open Budget Survey, Afghanistan Budget Transparency Tops Region
According to a report by Open Budget Survey (OBS) among 117 countries of the world, Afghanistan’s National Budget has received 50 points, whereas the average point worldwide is 45 points.
In the OBS’s last report, Afghanistan had received 49 points. According to this report, Afghanistan’s budget transparency has improved and has gotten a higher point than India, Sri Lanka, Bangladesh, and Pakistan who have received 49, 47, 36, and 28 respectively.
In this report, indicators of financial transparency, peoples’ participation, and formal monitoring of the national budget has been given priority. Afghanistan has remained the same on the peoples’ participation indicator, and has received 14 points, whereas the worldwide average is 15 points. In peoples’ participation Afghanistan has become better than stable countries like India and Nepal. Albeit Ministry of Finance believes that the national budget is for the people of Afghanistan, and peoples’ participation should be better. We are committed to improve in this indicator for next year.
Ministry of Finance publishes information preventatively and on demand. National budget’s quarterly reports, bi-quarterly and annual reports, and revenue reports are regularly updated and published through websites, and shared with the media.
