First Session of Regional Connectivity High Council for FY-1399 Held

The first session of regional connectivity High Council for FY-1399 was chaired by H.E. Prof. Mohammad HumayonQayoumi, Acting Minister of Finance and Chief Advisor Affairs on Infrastructure to H.E. the President on March 14, 2020.

In the session, selection of the train gauge unit for Afghanistan Railway Project, and planned projects were discussed. In addition, the quintet railway between Afghanistan, China, Kyrgyzstan, Tajikistan and Iran, the railway features, and the challenges caused by different gauges were assessed. Central Asian and Russian Federation's Railway Corridor to South Asia through Afghanistan, suggestions and challenges to implement the project and other related issues were also deliberated in the session.

At the end, the council authorized the Ministry of Transport to work on one of the railway routs, considering the suggestion of the council members to further safeguard the country’s economic interest; and connect Central Asia to South Asia.
