Acting Minister of Finance and Ministry of Agriculture Experts Discusses Investment, Cultivating and Manufacturing Asafoetida

H.E. Prof. Mohammad Humayon Qayoumi, Acting Minister of Finance and Chief Advisor on Infrastructure to H.E. the President, met the experts of Ministry of Agriculture, Irrigation and Livestock on manufacturing Asofoetida where representatives of private sector were present today July 02, 2019.

In the meeting, the parties discussed planting Asofoetida as a replacement for poppy, creating job for a large number of compatriots through cultivating this crop and increasing domestic revenue through exporting that, investment of private sector in this area, marketing in South Asian and European countries, Asofoetida supports for economic growth of the country and other related issues.

H.E. Minister Qayoumi stated that investment in cultivating and manufacturing Asofoetida is one of the priority of agriculture sector, economic self-reliance strategy and government investment plan.

The Ministry of Agriculture experts notified that cultivating a sample of this crop in most areas of the country had a positive result and corresponded to the country’s climate. Likewise, they asked the acting minister of finance to include it in the high economic council’s agenda after the comprehensive plan of cultivating this crop is finalized by the Ministry of Agriculture.
