Ministry of Finance’s Attempts to Resume Port Operations with Pakistan

H.E. Prof. Mohammad HumayonQayoumi, Acting Minister of Finance and Chief Advisor on Infrastructure to H.E. the President, met with the private sector representatives of Kandahar, Mr. Mohammad YunusMomand and Mr. Mohammad YounusMomand, Commercial vice-chairman of ACCI, Mr. Naqibullah Safi, CEO at Pakistan Afghanistan Joint Chamber of Commerce & Industrieson March 19, 2020.

In the meeting, Mr. Momand expressed his gratitude to the Ministry of Finance for the attempts to keep the country’s ports open; and requested to re-start the ports’ operation to transfer commercial goods and to build food storage warehouses in the customs.

Likewise, the representatives of Kandahar private sector suggested speaking with Iran in the meantime to transfer money for imports from Chabahar and Bandar-Abass ports.

The Acting Minister of Finance assured them that the government will always try to solve the private sector’s problem. He emphasized that he has spoken with the Pakistani Ambassador to Kabul yesterday to resume port operation with Pakistan. Today, he will talk with Mr. Abdul RazaqDawood, Pakistan’s Prime Minister on trade, industry and investment affairs.
