Acting Minister of Finance Meets the New Deputy Special Representative of the Secretary General of the United Nations for Afghanistan

September 19, 2020: H.E. Abdul Hadi Arghandiwal, the Acting Minister of Finance had an introductory meeting with Dr. Ramiz Alakbarov, theNew Deputy Special Representative of the Secretary General of the United Nations for Afghanistan.

In the meeting, also attended by Mr. Atul Gupta, Head of Donor Coordination at UNAM the Acting Minister of Finance congratulate Dr. Alakbarov on his new role, and two sides have discussed the existing coordination and cooperation between the Ministry and the UNAMA in many areas, and the upcoming pledging conference on Afghanistan.

“UNAMA is involved in on all fronts of Afghan polity, includingeconomic cooperation, and donors’ affair. At this moment, it is very important for all of us,the Afghan government, the UNAMA, and the Finland government to work closely for organizing a successful pledging conference this year,” said Acting Minister of Finance.  

“Our main focus is also on the upcoming pledging conference, and we hope the conference will be organized successfully and in full coordination with our partners. We are working very closely with the Ministry of Finance and Finland’s technical team to ensure all plans are in place for the conference” said Deputy Special Representative.

It is important to note thatall key documents for the conference are shared with international partners, and Afghan government agencies for feedback. The Ministry ensures the all the documents to be finalized by early November, 2020.
