Torkham Custom’s Digital Scales Equipped with Asycuda System Put to Use

TorkhamCustom’s digital scales that were newly equipped with Asycuda system were put to use on June 14, 2020. The aim is to create transparency in collecting revenue, fight corruption, reduce administrative process and bureaucracy, and accurately register and control imports.
H.E Abdul HadiArghandiwal, Acting Minister of Finance attended the launching ceremony of these digital scales, along with TamimArefMomand, deputy governor of Nangarhar, provincial council representatives, private sector representatives, and a number of directors from the Ministry of Finance.
H.E Abdul HadiArghandiwal, at the launching ceremony: “Considering our commitment to modernize, especially revenue centers, it is our responsibility to fight corruption and bring transparency through reforming work processes, and developing systems that do this. To this date, these digital scales have been installed at the Torkham, Islam Qala, Nimroz, and Spin Buldak customs; they will soon be installed in Hairatan, Aqina, Shirkhan Bandar, Dandpetan, Abu Nasr Farahi customs as well”.
The Acting Minister of Finance continued:” Installing these digital scales and modernizing our customs is a nightmare for the mafia; so it is our priority, and we will work with full commitment in all custom offices around the country”.
The Acting Minister emphasized that we will continue with full commitment against corruption; we will not allow the corrupt people to snatch our national revenue.
TamimArefMomand, deputy governor of Nangarhar, welcomed the Acting Minister of Finance and his accompanying delegation; further, he stated that installing digital scales is a good initiative in bringing transparency, creating systems, and fighting against corruption. He called for the government’s special attention in developing systems at the Torkham custom and border.
Doctor Mukhles Mohammad, private sector representative, welcomed digital scales installation at the Torkham custom, spoke about the challenges that private sector face, and requested the Ministry of Finance to create more facilities for the private sector at customs.

It is worth to mention that the Ministry of Finance has bought digital scales, cameras, and scanners to bring transparency in revenue collection, fight against corruption, develop systems to modernize customs; these scales are currently being installed at the border customs.
