Strengthening Bilateral Economic and Trade Relations Emphasized at the 7th Intergovernmental Joint Commission between Afghanistan and Tajikistan

The seventh meeting of Intergovernmental Commission on Economic and Trade, Social and Technical Cooperating between Afghanistan and Tajikistan co-chaired by H.E. Prof. Mohammad Humayon Qayoumi, Acting Minster of Finance and Chief Advisor on Infrastructure to H.E. the President, and Mr Khudoyor Zavqibek, the Minister of Transport of Tajikistan with the participation of the two country’s high ranking officials today July 04, 2019 in Dushanbe.
The meeting consisted of four committees below:
- Economic and trade, industry, transportation , customs and standardization
- Energy, Reservoirs, Oil and Gas
- Agriculture, Environment, Emergency and Insurance
- Culture, sports, travel, public health, education and higher education
In the meeting, the four committees discussed further strengthening economic and trade ties between Afghanistan and Tajikistan, launching an annual joint trade fair, establishing 500 volt transmission line from Rogun - Pole Khomri, extension of power supply contract for Kunduz province via 110 kV line, joint study for Dasht-e-Jam Hydropower Dam with capacity of 4000 megawatt, mutual technical cooperation on Sanabad and Sibzar hydropower dam, cooperation on reservoirs sector as well as stabilization of Aamo river beaches.

Additionally, the two sides also talked about cooperation on oil and gas exploration in the areas of oil and gas reserves in frontiers, cooperation on standardization of exports and imports merchandize, elimination of emergencies, environment protection, and transport, survey of Afghanistan-Tajikistan and Turkmenistan Railways construction, purchase of Tajikistan’s cement as well as customs information exchange.

Likewise, they also had discussion about strengthening export of agriculture products, improving horticulture, cooperation in the field of livestock, vegetation and, strengthening cultural, artistic and sports relations, mutual cooperation on industry, insurance, public health, education and higher education, joint scientific research in the areas of innovation and information technology.
At the end, the protocol of the seventh joint economic and trade commission signed between Afghanistan and Tajikistan by H.E. Acting Minister of Finance and Tajik Minister of Transport.
